Long Distance Relationships...Bad news or Good for the soul?

I pose the question and welcome opinions about whether or not a long distance relationship can work? I've heard the horror stories about long distance relationships and I've heard about "Black Monday"...the Monday after Thanksgiving or Christmas (not sure which one) when people who had significant others at the start of school, return single. Just recently I spoke with one of my classmates about his long distance relationship and that conversation restored my faith in the possibility of it.

So what do you think?...Is it a good idea or a foolish concept for dreamers?

Long distance relationships are possible. But they require hard work by BOTH people. Too often one person is doing all the work in the relationship.

I wanna agree with yasmin on this. Long distance relationships are extremly hard to and one should contemplate closely if it is worth it.

I have been in such a relationship, but only because I could not imagine to be with any other person. If there are no such strong emotions and commitment backing of the relationship, it is doomed to fail.

I wouldn't want to do it... I've done it in the past and it was very difficult and did not work out. I think that's partly because of my personal communications style (I hate the phone and would much rather speak face-to-face), but even so... no good.

Also, re: Black Monday: apparently, it's not called Black Monday just because it's a "black" day emotionally, but because some people choose to wear black on that day to signify that they broke up with their SO over the weekend. I just recently learned this...

Interesting...I did not know that people actually wore black. I'll have to look out for that. You learn something new everyday in this crazy work we call b-school.

i survived a long distance relationship with these facts
    1) she was from berkeley, I had just graduated from Stanford
    2) She was in berkeley, I was in the Netherlands
For two years, we saw each other for a week, every 8 weeks....and we made it (got married two years ago)...what saw us through..i still dont know..

I have just been reading thru ur blog to understand the GSB. Could not resist this one.

Methinks Barack Obama sums it up beautifully - "for all the discord and struggle to be found in our endeavors, we must remain guided by a dogged optimism in the future, and - 'the audacity of hope.'”

I can't say I really had a relationship which lasted since I was child, that would've been a blast for my adolescence and my life. I always wanted a relationship in which I experienced intimate stuff, you know! Generic Viagra
